Information on the Internationally Educated Nurses (IENs) Project From: http://www.clpnns.ca -------------------------------------- -------------------------------------- TITLE-Internationally Educated Nurses (IENs) Project-STUDY THANK YOU – POSTING ON WEB SITE-TITLE “Overwhelming response to Internationally Educated Nurses Project – Diagnostic Phase Focus Groups” The Steering Committee for the Internationally Educated Nurses Project – Diagnostic Phase would like to thank all the internationally educated nurses who volunteered to participate in the focus groups held in several cities across Canada. Your enthusiastic response was overwhelming! So many people volunteered that all focus group sessions filled up quite quickly. Unfortunately we were unable to accommodate everyone. The results of the focus group sessions will be used to form the foundation for further discussion and support decision-making which will subsequently benefit IENs who apply for registration as a nurse in Canada. The Steering Committee would also like to thank the Registrars and staff of the nursing regulatory bodies for licensed practical nurses, registered nurses and registered psychiatric nurses across Canada for all their time and effort in contacting the internationally educated nurses and their employers. This assistance is especially appreciated as it was required during the registration period, the busiest time of their year. The Internationally Educated Nurses Project – Diagnostic Phase is a Pan-Canadian project to assess the application process and practices for international nurses and their integration into the Canadian nursing workforce. Funded by the Government of Canada’s Foreign Credential Recognition program, this assessment will lay the foundation for developing a national coordinated approach to assessing international nurse applicants and integrating them into the workforce for each of the three regulated nursing groups. A final report is expected for March 2005. -------------------------------------- END
